Just a great joint! Lisa is great, my coffee cup is never empty. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are good! Try em out!

I was immediately greeted with an extremely warm welcome by both waitresses (Alicia & Angie). My server (Angie) was very attentive and friendly. They have daily specials that are reasonably priced. The ladies bathroom is cute and quaint. The signs were pretty quirky and funny! I ordered pork chops with homemade mashed potatoes and gravy. My meal also came with carrots and soup or salad. I chose the salad with Ranch dressing on the side. My salad arrived first. It was crisp, fresh and delicious. Before I had a chance to finish my salad off my meal was served. The pork chops were grilled to perfection. The mashed potatoes were homemade and they even had little chunks of potatoes all through them. The gravy was seasoned just right and the carrots were sweet and tender. I'm glad I picked this restaurant and I will DEFINITELY be back! As I was leaving even some of the regular customers thanked me for coming and wished me a very nice day! Now who wouldn't love that!

Think: Cheers, but with food. I have not visited in at least 20 years; shame on me. A couple of us grey beards were eating alone. The nearest guy was a regular and kibitzing by name with the staff and included me in his banter. A family meeting and eating before visiting another family member at Botsford-Beaumont Hospital occupied a booth. CP is classic Detroit diner that opened in the 1960's as one of the many Clock franchise locations. Aside from the staff, I doubt that it has been remodeled since opening, but it is being reasonably maintained. Set your expectations to Worn, but in a good way. The my breakfast was 4-stars. My corned beef & Swiss omelette was truly loaded with corned beef and was served hot from the flat top. The chopped potatoes were properly cooked, but lacked sufficient seasoning. A dash of salt, pepper and hot sauce was necessary. I wish it had included a hint of something else; onion? Garlic? So how is this a 5-star review? Value! A generous three egg omelette, loaded with corned beef, served hot by an attentive waitress was $9.99. Will I return? Yes. Absolutely.

Very nice home cooked food; huge portions as well. Been going there for at least 10 years. Pricing is very fair for the quantity of food you get. Fresh on the premises baked goods as well!

Been since 2019 last visit, so happy they survived Covid. Love the Classic Rock n Roll Mike plays, a master on the Flattop since 1976 . Talk about a valuable employee don't know many like him. Mid afternoon on a weekday only a few other customers, waitress knew everyone except us. Old School Cool Blue Plate Special change everyday, true old-school our grandparents grew up on. So cool 50 year's same owners packing the place with down home great food. Famous for the daily baked bread, biscuits n gravy and breakfast. Named on of metro Detroit Best Breakfast 2019 by WDIV viewers. Today's Blue Plate Special Spaghetti with Meat sauce and Garlic bread 4 bucks n change fantastic mega deal. She had the Pulled Pork sandwich and a bowl of Chili spot on delicious. I also ordered really great Salmon Patties with real Chunky Mashed Taters n Gravy some corn also only 8 bucks. Those Salmon Patties a pair of outstanding Flavor reminder of my childhood. Was told they now have a Instagram page go follow @thecanterburypalace #thecanterburypalace #blueplatespecial #salmonpatties #cheapfood #oldschooldiner #spaghetti #pulledporksandwich #downriverfriendseat

Great homemade food! If you're in the mood for fresh food, I highly recommend Canterbury palace! Service is amazing. Feels like your grandma's making you dinner! The prices are amazing as well!

Updating to four stars after several more visits which include better food than my initial first visit. For the most part, while their menu is pretty simple and basic, what they actually put forth is quite good. Yes, my beef stroganoff that I had the first time I went was certainly disappointing, but since then, I've been back several times to try different things that they offer, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Universally, the prices here are *extremely* affordable. There is no "except this, which is expensive" on their menu or white board...everything is inexpensive. More than that, though: most everything is done in-house, which is pretty incredible. It bothers me that my doctor has told me that I have to eliminate carbs from my diet as much as possible, because the carbs here are very, very good. Their O'Brien hash browns (with green peppers and onions) are a thing of beauty and great taste and texture, and they do those potatoes themselves. Their bread is all made in-house, and it's *darned* good bread. Their blue plate specials can be downright A-MAY-ZING. If they have marinated pork tenderloin that day? YOU WANT IT. It's incredible, a veritable feast of wonder for $3.95, served with potatoes, vegetables, and a piece of grilled bread. Need more? The full dinner is $2-3 more, and includes another piece of pork tenderloin and a full bowl of soup (again: all made in-house). It's not a date night place...who cares? *This* is a great place to treat yourself and your loved ones to a nice breakfast, or a cheap-o dinner that you can feel pretty good about knowing that your dinner didn't come out of a bag and was reheated for you. Staff works hard for you, and they're just salt-of-the-earth, nice folks. Tip 'em well, and don't forget to do so. A definite neighborhood establishment that's earned their keep for certain. Hard to find places like this. Even harder to find places like this that don't even come *close* to breaking the bank for well-made food. It's not culinary gastronomy here, nor anything of the kind! It's solid, well-prepared comfort food done right, and priced better. I wish it were closer to me.

Oddly enough, they have the best coney island I have ever had and I did not expect that. Coneys were the "Tuesday special" and I have to say they were the best I ever had. All beef dog, really good chili sauce and a fresh bun. The weekend breakfast specials are very good. Some of the best biscuits and gravy, righteous Northern omelette, Southern omelette, homemade bread for toast... Sometimes they randomly hand out fresh warm cookies out of the oven. Good desserts too.

So, based off food alone, this place is no more than 3 stars. But, the service here along with the crowd watching bumps it up to a 4 star place for sure. Walking in, I felt like I was in a time warp back to the early 80's or something. Small diner, bland decor, mediocre menu. But, the people watching here is great. Plus, the server, who was working the place basically alone, did an awesome job and made our experience hilarious. I would come back here just for that. No corporate jargon, pushy sales for add ons or random selling techniques. My date brought me here because he always talks about it, and was mentioning a blue plate special. I didn't order it this time because I wasn't interested (I think it was a salad) but it changes every day. I went with a hot dog and minestrone soup. My date went with the chicken wings and a salad. What made it funny, was the cook came out 10 minutes into our meal and asked how my dates wing sauce was. He said he liked it and the cook said "good because I made it myself!" When do you ever get to meet the cooks, let alone talk to them? NEVER. Place is cash only, and when the bill came, neither my date or I had cash to pay. So, I stayed at the table while my date ran to the ATM to get cash so we could pay. When we left, the waitress asked if we were coming back again. I said of course, and she said that the blue plate special today was Turkey. I said I was thrilled and probably will be back only because I had so much fun.
